Arizona is renowned internationally for birding and on Nov. 12, author Charles Babbitt will take you on an armchair tour to some of the state’s most productive and interesting spots, including lesser known areas

Desert Rivers Audubon Society, the East Valley’s local Audubon chapter, hosts a speaker every month from September to April at the Southeast Regional Library, Greenfield and Guadalupe Roads in Gilbert. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the program beginning at 7 p.m., according to a release.

Mr. Babbitt is the author of a new book, "Birding ArizonaWhat to Know, Where to Go." During his talk he will discuss a variety of habitats and speak on Arizona’s bird migration, including the summer influx from the Gulf of California, fall hawk and shorebird migrations, and great places to watch the spring and fall passerine migration, according to the release.

He will be signing his book before the program. A third-generation Arizonan, he is a lawyer, past president of the Maricopa Audubon Society and past member of the Arizona Bird Committee.

Also, mark your calendar for Nov. 2. That day Desert Rivers Audubon hosts the 8th Annual Tour de Bird, a self-guided visit to 13 locations around the East Valley where you can learn how to make your yard a beautiful and wildlife-friendly refuge. Information at desertriversaudubon.org.

The Desert Rivers Audubon Society provides environmental education and conservation opportunities to valley residents, and advocates for our environment.
