Desert Financial, a credit union, will open a new location June 8 in Queen Creek. The Ironwood Safeway Branch is Desert Financial’s 47th location at 40950 N. Ironwood Road.

The Ironwood location is home to the company’s third open concept design, which places the branch conveniently near the store’s entrance, according to a release.

The modern concept includes teller “pods,” making optimum use of the space and leaving a more modest footprint while delivering robust services. A digital media board keeps members informed when waiting for services.

Desert Financial continues to conduct branch operations in keeping with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, promoting the health and safety of their members, team and community.

Branch lobbies are open for teller transactions, and visits with member advocates can be made by appointment.

Safety measures and practices include:

• Germ shields at teller windows
• Social distancing dots on floor
• Face masks available for staff
• Sanitizing between guests

Desert Financial is a not-for-profit cooperative owned by members.

While the origins were founded by teachers, today, eligibility for membership is broader. Anyone who lives, works and worships in Maricopa, Pinal or Gila counties can apply for membership, and a statewide charter to expand will be announced soon, the release states.

Credit unions offer an array of financial services, but differ from traditional banks by re-investing profits back into the community to improve lives and promote financial wellness.
