Goodyear to dedicate second state-of-the-art fire station May 12

Station 181 virtual ribbon-cutting to be streamed live

The city of Goodyear and Goodyear Fire Department will formally dedicate Station 181 with a virtual ribbon-cutting at 9 a.m. Wednesday, May 12.

The ceremony will stream live on the city’s Facebook page, @goodyearazgov.

The recently completed 15,855-square-foot station on 143rd Avenue between Van Buren Street and Celebrate Life Way, is the second new station to open in Goodyear this year.

The first was the 12,587-square- foot Station 186, 18430 W. Willis Road in Estrella Mountain Ranch, dedicated with a virtual ribbon-cutting March 3.

Both facilities were designed with firefighters’ long-term health in mind.

Each station features a decontamination corridor that allows firefighters to decontaminate their turnout gear as soon as they return from a fire call, a vestibule that reduces their exposure to cancer-causing contaminants by separating the clean residence side from the “dirty” business side, and a second decontamination corridor that allows firefighters to rid their bodies of contaminants.

In addition, the stations, both in new-growth areas of the city, allow the fire department to improve incident response times.
