Austin D. “Van” Vanderbilt

Austin, 99, of Fayetteville, NY and Sun City, AZ, died peacefully on Thursday, October 17, 2019. He was born in Ossining, NY.

Austin graduated from New York University School of Engineering. During World War II, he was a Captain in the Air Force, serving as a navigator.

Van was a long-time resident of Fayetteville and retired from Crouse Hinds in Syracuse, NY. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Fayetteville and Sun City United Church.

Van was predeceased by his first wife, Vivian, in 1987 and his second wife, Janet W., on June 25, 2019.

He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Taylor and Sarah Vanderbilt of Katonah, NY; nephews, Austin and Jackson; niece, Stephanie MacDonald; as well as several great-nieces; and a great-nephew.

Services will be private. Burial will be in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Tarrytown, NY. Contributions may be made to United Church of Sun City, 11250 N. 107th Ave., Sun City, AZ 85351.
