Arizona Historical Society plans to reopen Arizona Heritage Center

The Arizona Historical Society has announced its reopening timeline for the Arizona Heritage Center at Papago Park in Tempe.
The reopening includes new policies and procedures for guests, visitors, and staff based on current guidelines from the Arizona Department of Health Services and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, according to a press release.
The Arizona Heritage Center at Papago Park, 1300 N. College Ave., will open Saturday, June 13 to members; and Tuesday, June 16 to the general public. The new museum hours are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday,
The time for the library and archives is by appointment only, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, the release said, adding to email ahsreference@azhs.gov to schedule an appointment.
Current exhibitions include Current State featuring the work of Thomas “Breeze” Marcus and Still Marching: From Suffrage to #MeToo that examines women’s protest movements during the past century, according to the release.
Also, guests can enjoy permanent exhibits that explore Arizona history in the 20th century from Arizona’s role in WWII to the post-war population boom, and beyond.
Additional updates include:
• Museum guests, vendors, and visitors are asked to maintain 6-feet physical distancing in the museums.
• Masks or face coverings for museum guests, vendors, and visitors are highly-encouraged but not required but AHS staff will wear face coverings.
• The sanitization schedule for public areas and high-touch surfaces has been increased.
• Guests are encouraged to purchase admission online starting on June 12 and are encouraged to use credit/debit cards, although cash will be accepted.
• Visits will be limited to 90 minutes, with extensions upon request and availability.
• Drinking fountains are closed, but guests will be allowed to bring personal water bottles inside museums; bottled water is also available for purchase.
• Museum gift shops will remain temporarily closed through June 30.
• For those who are not feeling well, or have a fever, the release said to “please stay home,” and online admission ticket purchases can be refunded or honored at a future date.
Founded in 1864, the Arizona Historical Society is noted as the state’s oldest and “most prestigious historical organization, dedicated to collecting, preserving, and sharing Arizona’s rich history,” described the release.
The institution has stories on people, places, and events that shaped Arizona told through museum exhibits, programs, events, and outreach to showcase Arizona’s history.
