American Leadership Academy has hired Ryan McCurdy as athletic director at the Ironwood 7-12 campus, 850 W. Combs Road in Queen Creek.

He will assume his duties later in September. He comes to ALA Ironwood from ALA Queen Creek High School where he has spent the last six years as head coach of the Patriots Varsity Boys basketball team as well as a physical education teacher, according to a release.

“I am truly honored to join the ALA Ironwood family,” Mr. McCurdy said in the release. “I look forward to working closely with our student athletes, coaches and staff to fulfill ALA’s mission, vision and values through athletics. Go Warriors.”

During his time with the Patriots, Mr. McCurdy won four region championships and the 2020 3A State Championship. He was named Region Coach of the Year twice and was named the 2020 3A Coach of the Year.

“We are thrilled to have Ryan take over at ALA Ironwood,” Buddy Allen, ALA district athletic director of operations, said in the release. “His commitment to ALA and the R.A.I.S.E. values will be a huge asset to the Warrior community. Ryan has done great things with the basketball program at ALA Queen Creek, and we are excited for what he can do at the Ironwood campus.”

Mr. McCurdy was born and raised in Arizona, and attended Highland High School in Gilbert. He was awarded a four-year athletic scholarship to play basketball at Northern Arizona University and has bachelor's and master's degrees in elementary education from NAU. After he completed his eligibility at NAU, he went to Europe to play professionally.

Mr. McCurdy and his wife Corie live in Gilbert and have three boys Jaxen, Kylan and Treyton.
