Woman injured in August crash dies

A 25-year-old woman injured in a collision Aug. 23 near 39th Avenue and Monte Vista Road has died, Phoenix police said Wednesday.

Marisa Zermeno died at a hospital Sept. 7 with her family beside her, according to a Phoenix Police Department release.

The multiple-vehicle collision occurred about 2 p.m. Aug. 23, and detectives learned that Zermeno was driving north on 39th Avenue when a car driving west on Monte Vista Road attempted to make a left turn at the same intersection.

The crash caused Zermeno’s car to spin and hit a third vehicle before rolling over several times, police said. Zermeno and a child passenger in the car were taken to a hospital. The child had serious but non-life-threatening injuries, and Zermeno was stabilized after arriving at the hospital.

One of the drivers of other cars had non-life-threatening injuries, and the other was not injured, police said.
