Desert Edge junior Vinny Mansfield nearly doubled up fellow receiver Mikel Henderson of ValleyVista to win West Valley Preps' week 7 player of the week vote.
Mansfield caught 6 passes for 108 yards and three touchdowns as the Scorpions dominated the second half of its Oct. 15 game at Ironwood to win 33-20.
Mansfield finished with 1,011 of the 2,059 votes cast
Henderson, also a junior, was second with 521 votes. He had catches receptions for 74 yards and a touchdown plus 4 carries for 54 yards in the Monsoon's 48-8 win against Avondale La Joya.
Northwest Christian senior Grant Gibson placed third with 228 votes. The running back/defensive back had 11 carries for 65 yards and two touchdowns plus an interception.
For the sixth straight year, player of the week honorees, including Mansfield, will win more than bragging rights.
Celebrity Tux and Tails, returns as the sponsor of the player of the week poll. The store, at 9240 W. Northern Ave., Suite 103-A in Peoria, will provide each winner a free rental redeemable any time this school year.
