Saturday morning collision kills pedestrian in Phoenix

Posted

A 46-year-old man died at the scene of a collision early Saturday morning in the 2900 block of East Thomas Road, Phoenix police said.

Officers responded to the crash scene about 2:20 a.m. June 8 to find Peter Klabanos with serious injuries. He was pronounced dead.

Detectives took over the investigation and said preliminary information suggests that Klabanos was crossing Thomas Road mid-block when he was struck by a vehicle heading west on Thomas.

The driver showed signs of impairment, and he was processed for DUI and released, police said.

“Charging decisions will be made after toxicology is completed, and the accident reconstruction process is complete,” police stated in a release. Speed also appears to be a factor in the collision, police said.
