A beloved American musical, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “Carousel,” is coming in concert.

Celebrating its 80th anniversary this year with timeless songs like “If I Loved You” and “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” the Broadway classic debuted on Broadway in 1945. Three performances will take place April 26-27 at the Herberger Theater Center, 222 E. Monroe St., Phoenix.

Rarely heard in its original full-scale orchestration, Arizona Musicfest’s concert production, with limited theatrical elements, showcases the music. Set in a seaside town in Maine, “Carousel” follows the love story of Billy Bigelow, a handsome but troubled carousel barker, and Julie Jordan, a young mill worker.

The enduring tale will feature the 40-piece Musicfest Pops Ensemble (Josh Condon, conductor) and a lineup of world class soloists including Erica Spyres from Broadway’s 2018 revival of “Carousel” as Julie Jordon, and acclaimed Broadway, TV and film actor James Snyder as Billy Bigelow.
