Final Act Theatre with Spotlight Youth Theatre will present The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee – a fundraiser performance benefitting Spotlight's programs.
Shows are at 7 p.m. Aug 7, 8 and 9, and 2 p.m. Aug. 10 at Spotlight Youth Theatre, 10620 N 43rd Ave., Glendale.
The play is a winner of the Tony and the Drama Desk Awards for Best Book. An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime.
While candidly disclosing stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves a champion.
Final Act Theatre is not a permanent performance group, only a summer project amongst friends to be used as a fundraiser for Spotlight. Funds from these performances support Spotlight's contribution to youth performers around the Valley.
The play is rated PG13 for language and situations that may not be appropriate for younger audiences.
