Phoenix officers arrest suspect in Make-A-Wish statue theft

Posted

Phoenix police have made an arrest in connection with the theft of a statue that inspired the creation of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Police recovered portions of the statue, which was destroyed, and arrested Troy Burke. He has been charged with theft and trafficking of stolen property, police said.

Authorities said they are searching for a second suspect.

The statue was a bronze of the first child the organization helped and inspired the creation of the Make-A-Wish nonprofit in Phoenix.

Police said Burke, who was arrested on Tuesday, Jan. 10, admitted his involvement in the case.

At about 1 p.m. Jan. 4, Phoenix officers responded to the area of 1700 East Highland to investigate a theft. The statue had been taken from the front of the Make-A-Wish offices.
