Petrell: Agrees that palm trees should go

Posted

I read with considerable interest the opinion of Rosemary Abrami of Sun City West (“Writer agrees about removing palm trees") about removal of palm trees from Sun City as well as Sun City West.

I, as well, complained years ago about removing palm trees to save considerable expense to trim these useless trees. Roy Sparling of Sun City (“Remove tall palm trees in Sun City") also contributed to the continuing objection to spending countless dollars to maintain these trees.

They provide little shade. Golf courses continue to trim palm trees also at considerable cost. Why? One 15-minute chain saw application can eliminate one palm tree forever. Another less expensive option would be to eliminate all foliage from these “trees” and forever eliminate the need to trim them. As income becomes available each palm tree without fronds can be eliminated. Perhaps provide a platform for each defronded palm so eagles or similar birds would be able to nest in a lofty nesting perch.

It would be interesting to see how much money would be saved if trimming of palm trees were eliminated. Perhaps we can be enlightened as to what we are paying to have palms trimmed two times per year.
