Local business partners battle for ‘king of the pizza hill’ status

Founder and CEO Julian Wright alongside Head of Brewing operations Dereck “Doc” Osborn are competing to see who can create and sell the most pizzas while donating revenue to dog shelters in Arizona.

“Doc’s a home-pizza-making enthusiast and I used to own a pizzeria so we thought that it would be a fun and friendly competition against each other,” Mr. Wright explained.

“And, since we are both big dog people, we are always looking for any excuse to donate to a dog shelter. So, we thought what better way to earn money than an old-fashion head-to-head competition for king of the pizza hill.”

Doc and Julian are business partners and have been for the past five years and have never done any competitions before because they are always on the same side --- working together to create the best experience possible.

“We’ve never had a reason to consider competing against each other since we are business partners and since we always have one goal in mind and that’s to put out the best beer possible However, it’s always fun to have some spirited competition,” Mr. Wright said.

Julian and his pulled pork pizza find themselves looking for a comeback story early in the competition as he is trailing Doc’s Diavolo pizza by more than just a few.

Mr. Wright’s charity of choice is the Valley Dog Rescue while Doc is fighting for the AZ K-9 rescue.  Regardless of the results of the competition, Pedal Haus will be donating $500 to the winner’s charity along with half of the revenue made by both pizzas on National Pizza Day.

Along with this event Pedal Haus has also released some new beers to go along with National Pizza Day such as its Doppelbock German craft beer along with others upon request.

“For those who haven’t been to Pedal Haus we invite you to come and join us with our beautiful big patio outside that not only is COVID friendly, but you can also enjoy the weather while enjoying some good beer,” Mr. Wright said.
