Officers involved in north Phoenix shooting, suspect arrested

An investigation is underway, and a 55-year-old man is in custody after being shot by a Phoenix police officer.

At about 11 p.m. Dec. 2, police responded to a domestic violence call in the 2100 block of East Bluefield Avenue. They were told a man was arguing with his mother in a home, and he had access to knives, according to a Phoenix Police Department release.

Officers discovered the man had an outstanding warrant while enroute to the home, and when they arrived, they were told by a man and woman that Abraham Hermosillo was inside and armed.

As officers entered the home, they found the suspect had two knives, and his mother retreated to the living room.

Hermosillo refused orders to drop the knives, the release stated, and he moved toward the living room when an officer fired his gun and struck him.

After the suspect dropped the knives, he did not follow directions to put his hands behind his back “so a less-lethal tool was used,” according to the release.

Hermosillo was taken to a hospital with non-life-threating injuries and released into custody.

He will be booked on multiple felony charges, police said, adding authorities are investigating the incident.
