Phoenix will get $15 million to expand its electric vehicle charging network through a federal grant, officials announced Wednesday.
The grant, from the Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Discretionary Grant Program, is expected to improve “access for Phoenix residents” and should help to address air quality in Maricopa County, according to a press release.
The grant is exclusively for the city of Phoenix.
Representatives for Arizona Sens. Mark Kelly and Ruben Gallego and Reps. Greg Stanton and Yassamin Ansari made the announcement.
“This investment will create good-paying jobs, and help Phoenix improve regional air quality, while making electric vehicles a more affordable and viable option for Arizona families and businesses,” Kelly said in the press release. “The bipartisan infrastructure law continues to deliver critical resources that strengthen our economy and build a more sustainable future for our state.”
The funding will strengthen Phoenix’s EV charging network — helping the city achieve “its goal of accommodating 280,000 electric vehicles” by 2030, the press release stated.
