Empty Bowls fundraiser returns to battle Phoenix residents' food insecurity

Waste Not, Arizona Clay Association host any event

Waste Not and the Arizona Clay Association are hosting the Empty Bowls fundraiser at The Arizona Center, 455 N. Third St. in Phoenix to help people with food insecurity Oct. 14 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Guests can purchase beautiful handmade art, have lunch and experience live music for a good cause.

According to a press release, Empty Bowls is held every October and features hundreds of hand-crafted bowls made and donated by members of the Arizona Clay Association. The empty bowl signifies the more than 1 million Arizonans who struggle with food insecurity and are sold for a $20 donation that includes lunch from Salad and Go!

Proceeds from the event go directly to Waste Not, a nonprofit that rescues perishable food from businesses and delivers it to agencies around the Valley that feed the hungry while reducing waste in our landfills.

“Empty Bowls is a wonderful event that brings the whole community together to reflect on hunger throughout the world and in our own neighborhoods,” Hillary Bryant, executive director of Waste Not, said in the release. “As we enter our 32nd year of hosting this event alongside the Arizona Clay Association, I am amazed at the impact this fundraiser has had. Over $600,000 has been raised for our organization through Empty Bowls events, resulting in 3 million meals provided to those that need it most. I am grateful to our generous sponsors and attendees for making Empty Bowls such a success year after year.”
