Goodyear and Phoenix Police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide after a Goodyear man and his former girlfriend were found dead in their respective homes.
Public Information Officer Lisa Berry said April 29 officers with the Goodyear Police Department were called to 41-year-old Todd Vermillion’s home in the 8800 block of South 165th Avenue in Goodyear at 12:42 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, after his family conducted a welfare check and found him dead from a gunshot wound.
Due to the suspicious circumstances, it quickly turned into a homicide investigation, and Mr. Vermillion’s former girlfriend, 37-year-old Lisa Couty of Phoenix became the prime suspect, Ms. Berry said.
On April 28, Goodyear SWAT served a search warrant at Ms. Couty’s Phoenix apartment and found her dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Ms. Berry said.
Phoenix Police Department is investigating her death, Ms. Berry said.
“As of now, this case is being treated as an ongoing murder investigation involving the apparent suicide of the suspect,” she said. “Goodyear Police believe this to be an isolated incident involving a domestic relationship and do not believe there is a danger to either community.”
