“A Painterly Triad - Art by Tal Dvir, Julie Frye, & Melanie Harman” is showing now at a gallery in downtown Phoenix.

The gallery runs through through Thursday, Sept. 26 at Olney Gallery at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 100 W. Roosevelt St. A First Friday reception will go from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6.

Dvir's paintings are figurative and have a variety of painting themes, a press release notes. He describes his paintings as contemporary impressionism grounded in a classical approach.

"My work is a process of constant reinvention,” Dvir stated. “Working with paints on canvas could be described as sculpting and designing with paints, adding layers and textures to present my painting style."

Dvir shows in galleries around the state and is an art instructor in Chandler.

Frye paints primarily with oil and uses a vivid palette to achieve brightly colored realism.

"I consider myself a colorist and most often use a full-color palette to achieve bright and appealing work that evokes a sense of place and emotion,” she states.

Frye was recently commissioned to do eight large paintings, which are on display in the entrance to the sanctuary of The Church of the Beatitudes.

Harman creates monotypes using stamps and stencils. Her collages are textural paintings, and she will paint on top of her collages with a brush, marker, or palette knife.

"Collaging with the prints satisfies my more analytical side,” Harman stated. “It requires me to slow down and take time to get the desired results."

Harman is the membership chair for Contemporary Watercolorists of Arizona and is VP of Exhibitions for the Arizona Artists Guild.

The Olney Gallery is open 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m.-noon Sunday, and Fridays by appointment.
