Daily Dose offers Habitat Builders Boxes to raise funds

Money would go to charitable home building organization

Sometimes a sandwich, chips, and a cookie may “hit the spot,” especially after spending a morning building a home. So Habitat Builders Box lunches will not only satisfy hunger needs but help raise funds for Habitat for Humanity.

A new partnership between restaurant Daily Dose and Habitat for Humanity of Central Arizona featuring a new menu – Habitat Builders Box lunch boxes – will help raise funds for Habitat for Humanity.

Each lunch will include a wrap sandwich, chips and a homemade cookie. For every $10 lunch sold, $1 will be donated to Habitat for Humanity of Central Arizona, according to a press release.

“When we have volunteer groups on the weekend, we always recommend they reward their hardworking crew with a takeout lunch,” said Habitat for Humanity Sponsor Relations Coordinator, Jessica Sepulveda, in a prepared statement.

“With this new partnership, we are letting our volunteer groups order these Builders Box lunch boxes from Daily Dose. It’s a win-win – the volunteers get to enjoy a delicious meal, and Habitat receives a donation for every lunch sold. Of course, we had to taste test the lunches, and our team gives them a big Habitat thumbs up!”

The partnership idea developed in the fall when Daily Dose Rio Salado fulfilled a lunch order for one of Habitat’s volunteer crews working on a Mesa project in Mesa, the release said.

Daily Dose owners JenLyn and Matt Long considered starting a routine to feed hungry volunteer crews and “build in a giveback donation program to help fund the good work being done in the community by Habitat for Humanity.”

They decided to add the lunch boxes to their regular menu for those getting a takeout lunch so anyone can support the organization that helps families in need of affordable housing.

Historically, Habitat for Humanity of Central Arizona hosts more than 10,000 volunteers each year, though in the time of COVID, there are some restrictions in place. This spring, there are plans to build five houses in the Central City South area south of downtown Phoenix and four houses in Tempe and Mesa.

Habitat homes are built based on a partnership between an Arizona family and the community. A qualifying family pays for their home with an affordable mortgage and through a down payment of 200 to 400 sweat-equity hours.

To qualify, applicants must have a need for an affordable home, an ability to pay, and a willingness to partner with Habitat, noted the release.

Habitat Builders Box lunch boxes are available for takeout at the following Daily Dose locations:

  • Daily Dose Old Town: 4020 N. Scottsdale Road, Suite 101, Scottsdale, 480-994-3673;
  • Daily Dose Midtown: 1928 E. Highland Ave., Suite F-107; Phoenix, 602-274-0334;
  • Daily Dose Rio Salado: 96 South Rockford Drive, Suite 105; Tempe, 602-274-0334.

In addition to serving breakfast and lunch at the Daily Dose locations in Old Town Scottsdale, midtown Phoenix, and Tempe, the midtown site serves dinner, noted the release.

Daily Dose also offers an catering menu, creating custom menus for groups from 10 to 500, and has dog-friendly patios at the three locations. See: dailydosegrill.com.

Habitat for Humanity gathers people to "build homes, communities and hope," the release said.

Since 1985, with the help of generous donors and volunteers, Habitat has built more than 1,150 homes, completed more than 2,500 repairs and helped improve a place called home for more than 3,500 Arizona families.
