BLM seeking comments on proposed Maricopa County solar project

Posted

The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public comments on a proposed 1,730-acre solar project in southern Maricopa County.

The Pinyon Solar Project calls for 265BH 8me LLC, a subsidiary of California-based Avantus LLC, could construct a photovoltaic solar facility and battery energy storage system in the Mobile Valley about 11 miles west of Maricopa. The project is expected to produce and store up to 300 megawatts of utility-scale energy, power from which would be sold to local utilities.

A draft environmental assessment and other information is available at the BLM National NEPA Register, where comments may be submitted through the “Participate Now” option. Comments may also be emailed to BLM_AZ_PDO_Solar@blm.gov or delivered to BLM Lower Sonoran Field Office, attn: Pinyon Solar, 2020 E. Bell Road, Phoenix, AZ 85022.

The comment period will close May 27, 2025.

The project also would include a 500-kilovolt electrical generation connection across 2 miles of public and private lands to connect to the Pinal West Substation in Pinal County.
