A 33-year-old man died this week in a collision involving a car and semitruck near 51st Avenue and Interstate 10, Phoenix police said Tuesday.

Just before 10 p.m. Nov. 11, officers were called to the crash scene where they found Christopher Betterson-Bishop and a woman, who was a passenger in the car.

Betterson-Bishop died at the scene, and the passenger was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives responded and learned Betterson-Bishop was driving south on 51st Avenue when he failed to stop for a red light while crossing over the I-10 Freeway overpass, according to a Phoenix Police Department release.

The driver of the semi was heading west on the I-10 access road when the collision took place. The driver of the semi remained on scene and spoke with investigators, police said

The collision is under investigation.
