West Valley residents help raise cancer awareness

Cardinals honor their battles


Cigna employees and Cigna guests, along with 150 other cancer survivors and previvors, were honored in the halftime show with the Arizona Cardinals cheerleaders Oct. 13 at the Cardinals’ “Crucial Catch” game sponsored by Cigna at State Farm Stadium, 1 Cardinals Drive, in Glendale.

Those from the West Valley recognized include Cigna employee Dawn Castillo and her husband Steven Castillo (Peoria), Cigna employee Cynthia Donato and her daughter Sherri Heiberg (Glendale), and Cigna employee Heather Jaeger and her husband Chris Jaeger (Peoria).

The participants unveiled a large ribbon while Haley & Michael’s performed the song “Hail Mary.”

The Cardinals and Cigna are working together for the 10th consecutive year to educate the community about breast health and the importance of preventive screenings during October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

About 1 in 8 U.S. women (about 12 percent) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime, according to breastcancer.org. In 2019, an estimated 268,600 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S.
