Vivian C. Mundorff

Posted

Vivian, devoted and beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away Monday, June 14, 2021, at her home in Sun City West, Arizona, at the age of 95. She was born Vivian May Cook on October 10, 1925, in Clay Center, Nebraska, to Edwin and Lillian Cook.
The first of four children, she learned discipline and determination from living on the family farm through the Depression and the home front of World War II. She married James C. Mundorff on October 6, 1946. Together they contributed three boys to the post-war Baby Boom — Michael (Terri), Terry, and Kevin. Vivian and Jim resided in Hastings and Lincoln, Nebraska, and Salt Lake City, Utah, before abandoning winter snow and retiring to Sun City West, Arizona.
She is survived by her three sons; three grandchildren, Erik (Mandy), Alex, and Sabrina; two brothers, Vernon (Joanne) and Lawrence; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by Jim, her husband of 55 years; and one brother, Kenneth.
Vivian was universally loved by all who crossed her path. Strangers became friends who were instantly drawn to her warmth and generosity. Her talents and hobbies were numerous. She had that farm girl ability to create anything from scratch, from a dress to the perfect meal. Her hand-painted tea towels were works of art.
After Jim’s passing, Vivian found a new calling as a volunteer in many roles for Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center in Sun City West. She donated over 7,000 hours of service spanning 17 years, finally ending when the pandemic halted all volunteer activities last year. Many newborns left the hospital with one of her hand-crocheted baby blankets featuring various well-known animated characters, from Mickey Mouse to Minions. In 2015 she received the prestigious Ruby Award for her service.
Vivian was an avid animal lover. Donations to the animal welfare nonprofit of your choice would honor her life and memory.
