By Gladys Vargas | Peoria
My name is Gladys Vargas, and I am a proud Arizona Latina and Marine Corps veteran.
I learned a lot from my time in the Marines — discipline, resilience and the importance of service. These are values that I continue to carry with me to this day. I have seen firsthand the dedication and sacrifice that our servicemen and women make, and I know the unique challenges we face when transitioning back into civilian life.
Ruben Gallego understands these challenges too. As a Marine, he has experienced the same struggles and triumphs that I have. He knows what it means to serve, the sacrifice that comes with losing brothers and sisters on the battlefield, and he knows what it means to come home and navigate the complexities of civilian life after combat.
Ruben has been a steadfast advocate for veterans, and that's something that Arizona needs. He has worked tirelessly to ensure that veterans receive the support and resources that we need to thrive, whether it's securing funding for our mental health or pushing for education benefits.
Ruben has always put us veterans first. One of the key issues that Ruben has addressed is mental health. Ruben has been open and honest about his struggles with PTSD, something that I and many veterans struggle with. He has been an advocate for increasing access to mental health services, and he understands the importance of breaking through the stigma and ensuring that veterans have the support they need to heal and recover.
Ruben also knows that education is a powerful tool for veterans transitioning into civilian life. When he was in the Arizona House of Representatives, he wrote a bill that allowed all veterans to get in-state tuition at Arizona colleges and universities, no matter what state they come from.
He has also supported initiatives that provide educational benefits and job training programs, helping veterans build successful careers and securing their futures.
As a Marine, I am honored to support Ruben Gallego. He understands our struggles, strengths, and sacrifices. I urge all of you to stand with me in supporting Ruben Gallego for the U.S. Senate.
Together, we can ensure that our voices are heard, our needs are met, and our service is honored. Thank you, and may God bless our veterans and this great nation.
