"Beautiful: The Carole King Musical," a true story of one woman's journey from teenage songwriter to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is on stage at Arizona Broadway Theatre April 25 through June 5.
As one of the most celebrated and iconic singer/songwriters of all time, King has had 118 songs on Billboard’s Top 100 list over the last 60 years and her solo album, "Tapestry," held the record for longest-charting album by a female solo artist in the U.S. for more than 40 years.
The stage production of "Beautiful: The Carole King Musical" follows her rise to stardom, from her partnership in a hit songwriting team with husband Gerry Goffin to her relationship with fellow writers and best friends, Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, to becoming one of the most successful and celebrated solo acts in popular music history.
“Carole King is an icon and a legend, and this production follows her life from the string of pop classics she wrote for the biggest acts in music to her own life-changing, chart-busting success with 'Tapestry',” said Kurtis Overby, artistic director at Arizona Broadway Theatre.
“'Beautiful' takes audiences on a nostalgic ride with some of the most memorable and impactful songs in American history,” he added. “I think audiences will be surprised to learn how many of their favorite songs from the 1960s, 70s and 80s were actually written by Carole King.”
"Beautiful: The Carole King Musical" features more than two dozen hit songs including “So Far Away,” “Will You Love Me Tomorrow,” “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling,” “You’ve Got a Friend,” “I Feel the Earth Move,” “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” and the title song “Beautiful.”
The Arizona Broadway Theatre cast includes Melissa Campbell as Carole King, Courtney Dease as Gerry Goffin, Madeline Canfield as Cynthia Weil and James Schultz as Donnie Kirshner. Phoenix-area performers include Ryan Ardelt as Barry Mann, Carolyn McPhee as Genie Klein, Jordan Paige Fox in an ensemble role and Quinn Tierney Vaira as the Carole King understudy.
Unlike any other theater in the Valley, Arizona Broadway Theatre provides an all-encompassing experience combining world-class dining and entertainment. For each show, an award-winning chef and culinary team create a custom food and beverage menu to complement the production.
