TheaterWorks to host online class on Greek theater

Registration open to teens 14-18

A “Greek Myth: In Study and Action” online class through TheaterWorks starts Monday, July 6.

The class will teach students ages 14-18 about the history of Greek theater, Greek myth, as well as studying the epic “The Oresteia.” Emphasis will be placed on understanding of Greek theater historically and will include acting portions from “The Oresteia,” a trilogy of Greek tragedies written by Aeschylus in the 5th century BC, concerning the murder of Agamemnon by Clytemnestra, the murder of Clytemnestra by Orestes, the trial of Orestes, the end of the curse on the House of Atreus and the pacification of the Erinyes.

This class will meet from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday for three weeks through July 23. The class is limited to 10 students.

Producing artistic director Chris Hamby will teach the class.

TheaterWorks (theaterworks.org) is located at the Peoria Center for the Performing Arts, in downtown Peoria, at 10580 N. 83rd Drive.

Fee is $240.
