Big Band hoping to add concerts soon

Posted

The AZ Swing Kings big band has scheduled a show in Peoria while waiting for circumstances to allow for other future gigs.

The 18-piece band representing the swing and jazz eras and under the direction of Lenny King, founder and former leader of the Chicago Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra, will perform 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19 at Arizona Broadway Theatre, 7701 W. Paradise Lane.

“Band members are anxiously looking forward to getting back into music entertainment activities as soon as it would be safe for the performers and audience,” the Kings stated in a news release. “We are hoping to set up some outdoor concerts in the upcoming months, September-October-November. The programs would feature our 18-piece big band with vocalists, performing popular music of the Big Band Era.”

The Peoria concert will feature vocalists Vito Maynes, and also vocalist Bridget Maynes and her pianist/arranger Auggie Mendoza as the “Bridget & “The Aug” duo.

Tickets $32-$36, available online in November at azbroadway.org/box-office.
