Expanded services officially launched at the 126,000-square-foot Valleywise Comprehensive Health Center, April 5, at Grand Avenue and Cotton Crossing.
The health care center opened its doors in January with primary and pediatric care, women’s obstetrics, cardiology, dental, dialysis and pharmacy services. Beginning Monday, specialty services in general surgery, orthopedics and sports medicine, podiatry, gastrointestinal, audiology, diagnostic imaging and laboratory services were all made available.
“Within our research, we identified a need in the Peoria community for these specialty services, so our patients really have the opportunity to fulfill many of their healthcare needs all at one convenient location,” Sherry Stotler, chief nursing officer at Valleywise Health, said in a news release. “We look forward to serving our current patients in a more comprehensive manner, but hope that area physicians will look to us as a trusted resource to refer their patients for these more specialized services.”
Specific to the predominantly underserved, or underinsured population that Valleywise Health serves, orthopedics and sports medicine was a service that was identified as critical to offer. Many common injuries sustained at work, home or during activity such as knee, shoulder and ankle injuries go undiagnosed and untreated due to lack of access to this care, or lack of insurance and Valleywise Health wants to ensure those who need this service, have access to it, the release said.
“As these injuries can be sustained in any phase of life, whether at work or play, many postpone treatment for fear of cost, but Valleywise Health assists its patients no matter their ability to pay and encourage you to seek consultation if you have sustained an injury so we can help you heal and get back on the path to recovery,” Dr. John Green, orthopedic sports medicine specialist at Valleywise Health, said in the release.
The comprehensive health center is also host to a Family Learning Center which provides guidance and resources to improve the health of families in the Peoria and Northwest Valley. Whether a class on nutrition, parenting tips or receiving information on insurance options, the FLC is available to provide assistance to those seeking it. Due to COVID-19, the FLC hours are currently limited but virtual classes are available along with sessions by appointment only.
