Shanley: Peoria Diamond Club remains steadfast in its obligations to youth charities

Posted

Hello Peoria Diamond Club sponsors,

I feel like this message is long overdue.

With the continuing unchartered territory that we keep encountering, the Peoria Diamond Club has been staying busy with the obligations to our youth charities the best we can.

One thing that remains the same — PDC is committed to helping the children in our community. The club took a financial hit with the abbreviated spring training season as we were not able to receive compensation for services that we provide the city of Peoria and the Major League Baseball teams for the remainder of the season. We were also out of proceeds from other events, such as our annual FoodStock event.

Thus, I have to say it once again, thank you for providing the support you did when you did. I would like to give you an idea of how your dollars have impacted our community since March.

As you may know, the PDC has a successful grant program with three cycles of giving during the year. Because of your generosity, we were able to support seven different youth organizations from our spring cycle for a total of $22,000. I do not have to tell you how critical this giving is. If you would like to see a breakdown of this information, please let me know or visit our PDC website.

Also, each May, we annually provide Emerging Leader Scholarships to one student from each of the 42 Peoria Unified School District schools. Again, because of your generosity, we were able to provide these young, deserving students $10,600 again this year.

The demand for help continues, and is even more so, as our communities and our world encounters more economic, social, financial and health crises. As we are moving forward to summer, the PDC has decided to provide some extra support in the community in the way of helping those that are still in great need. Again, we thank you for making this possible.

I am fully aware of the obligation the PDC has in holding up our end of the bargain we made with each of you. We value you as a sponsor, and please know that I will make every effort to fulfill those.

In closing, I would like to sincerely thank each one of you for joining our team and supporting our mission. We have made do under difficult and ever-changing circumstances. Your support has made a huge difference in many children’s lives. Please know it has not gone unnoticed.

Until next time, stay safe and stay well. We appreciate you all.
