Portillo’s newest restaurant in Glendale announced an official opening date of Tuesday, April 27.
The Chicago-style fast-casual chain, which started in 1963 and has expanded to more than 60 locations across the country, is in front of Arrowhead Towne Center, at 17125 N. 79th Ave., Glendale.
“Portillo’s has had great experiences in the Phoenix area,” CEO Michael Osanloo stated in a news release. “We can’t wait to be able to expand our presence with a new restaurant in Glendale that’s sure to deliver our unrivaled Chicago street food to new guests and loyal fans alike.”
Portillo’s is best known for its Chicago-style hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches, char-grilled burgers and famous chocolate cake.
The Glendale location marks the fourth freestanding Portillo’s in the Phoenix area, joining locations in Tempe, Scottsdale and Avondale. The Glendale restaurant officially opens to the public at 10:30 a.m.
Portillo’s is now accepting applications in anticipation of the opening. On average, Portillo’s hires approximately 150 people for new restaurants. The restaurant is looking to fill a variety of hourly and shift leader positions. Interested applicants can visit portillos.com/careers or apply in-person at Portillo’s Hiring Center, located currently at the Hampton Inn, 8404 W. Paradise Lane, Peoria.
Open interviews take place 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The brand is offering a referral program for hired employees, in which they receive wireless headphones for applicant referrals that lead to employment.
The 7,800-square-foot restaurant will feature a diner theme that includes nostalgic décor and diner-style booths, inspired by the 1950s and 1960s. The restaurant offers seating for more than 190 guests, as well as an outdoor patio and double drive-thru lanes.
