Police investigating shooting in downtown Peoria area

Posted

Police are investigating a shooting in the downtown Peoria area.

Peoria Police officers overheard shots fired 2:30 a.m., April 24, near 85th and Peoria avenues.

Shortly thereafter, dispatch received several calls from residents regarding shots in the area, and possibly two vehicles involved.

Officers located an unoccupied vehicle that had crashed behind a business just north of 85th and Peoria avenues.

The vehicle appeared to have been struck by gunfire multiple times. Officers also discovered multiple shell casings along 85th Avenue.

A short time later, police said, a resident at the Park & Ride near 83rd and Peoria avenues was flagged down by a male juvenile who said he had been assaulted. The juvenile was unable to provide additional details and was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Officers later confirmed he was connected to the vehicle that had crashed behind the business.

Police deployed the department’s drone unit to search the area for any additional individuals, however, none were located.

Officers said this is an active investigation, and detectives are still working on collecting more information about what led up to the shooting.

At this time, no arrests have been made, and this appears to be an isolated incident, as all parties seem to be known to each other, police said.
