In honor of the 21st anniversary of September 11, 2001, all Peoria Unified schools will join in a moment of silence at 9:11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 9 to pay tribute to those affected by the events on September 11 and the days that followed.

To further commemorate the events on September 11, the following schools will hold their own special events:

Apache Elementary School students in fourth- through eighth-grades will be writing a message of hope on a blue paper tile this week. These will be put on a bulletin board in the hall with the quote from the 9/11 memorial in New York, “No Day Shall Erase You from the Memory of Time.”

Desert Harbor Elementary School will hold the annual “Walk of Honor” at 9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 9. During this event, staff and students will recognize and honor those who serve our community and country by lining the hallways and paying tribute to the guests in attendance.

Frontier Elementary School will hold their annual Heroes Luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9 for firefighters, police officers, first responders and soldiers.

Lake Pleasant Elementary School will hold a short assembly at 8:20 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 9 and invite families of junior high students to attend. Mr. Beltram will share the history of the nation’s military flags.

Peoria High School students in the Air Force Junior ROTC will hold a ceremony on the front lawn at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 9.

Peoria Unified School District is in the Northwest Valley of Peoria, Arizona and is home to 42 public schools. District enrollment is more than 37,000 and has about 4,000 staff, serving as one of the largest employers in the West Valley and one of the largest unified school districts in Arizona.
