Contractor to improve Peoria Avenue for $1.7M

Posted

The city of Peoria is set to pay $1.7 million to Phoenix-based ViaSun Contracting Co. Inc. to perform pavement maintenance and repair services on Peoria Avenue from Grand Avenue to Loop 101.

Council is expected to approve the contract Aug. 18.

As a part of its pavement management program, the Public Works Department, Streets Division determined this stretch of Peoria Avenue is a priority for pavement rehabilitation. The work will repair and restore this road and extend its functional lifecycle in the best possible condition within the city's allocated budget, according to a city document.

The streets division recommended Peoria Avenue be milled to remove damaged asphalt surface, which will be replaced with approximately 2 inches of new, high-volume, rubberized asphalt concrete.

This project will eliminate multiple distresses and provide a smoother riding surface, reduce ongoing maintenance costs and increase the pavement's lifecycle. Incidental to this work is repair and replacement of damaged concrete and improvement of ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act compliance. With this paving work, a modified striping plan including bike lanes will be placed. Funding for the project was allocated in the fiscal year 2021.
