Peoria sets sights on Loop 303 interchange at Jomax

A road construction project in north Peoria is a step closer to moving forward.

The Peoria City Council approved an agreement with the Arizona Department of Transportation for the design and construction of the Loop 303 interchange at Jomax Road.

The city will pay the state for construction costs estimated at $515,102, and is responsible for any overage. Peoria will also assume responsibility for maintenance of the new facilities after construction.

The state will prepare all design plans, specifications and other documents for bidding and secure all necessary permits for the work within their right of way.

Construction is expected to begin in spring 2020 and be completed by winter 2021.

Currently, Loop 303 consists of two general purpose lanes at the Jomax Road alignment. Because a bridge over Jomax Road does not exist, traffic on Loop 303 departs from the main line alignment and travels along the future on and off ramps. ADOT is in the process of adding a third general purpose lane to Loop 303 between Happy Valley Road and Lake Pleasant Parkway. Included in ADOT’s project is the design of a traffic interchange at Loop 303 and Jomax Road.

The new interchange will include bridges for the main lines and a concrete paved surface under the bridges for the new interchange.

The agreement includes include a 2-inch PVC electrical conduit in a joint utility trench to accommodate new lighting and a new signal at Vistancia Boulevard and Jomax Road, as well as a 36-inch diameter steel casing under the interchange, to accommodate a future water main running east to west.
