With scammers and criminals looking to take advange of shoppers this holiday season, the city of Peoria is offering tips for residents to shop ‘til they drop safely.
Online and in-person shopping is picking up in December, so here are some tips to be safe.
• Park in a well-lit space when shopping at night.
• Lock your car, close the windows, and hide shopping bags in the truck.
• Minimize shopping with cash. Pay with a card when possible.
• Avoid shopping alone, use the buddy system when possible.
• When shopping online, only use secure sites.
• Use strong passwords and avoid phishing emails.
• Monitor your bank statement for fraudulent activity.
