The city of Peoria is offering landscape and garden tips for January.
Here are a few tips to make your yard or garden pop.
• January is a good time to prune dormant woody trees and shrubs. Because the plant is dormant, pruning will not cause a surge in growth that would happen in warmer months.
• Do not over-water annual plants this month. Water to a depth of about 6 inches, and allow top of soil to dry out before watering again.
• Now is the time to plan your spring garden. Many spring vegetables need to be started by seed about now, including tomatoes.
• It is a good month to propagate succulents so they establish roots before the heat of summer.
• Harvest citrus if you have it! You know they are ripe not by color but by the taste.
• Now is the time to cast native wildflower seeds into the landscape for a bright spring.
