Peoria North Rotary Club continued its recognition of student achievements by awarding Student of the Month honors to 11 students from five local high schools.
The club recognized three students from Mountain Ridge High School, in Glendale, and eight students from four Peoria Unified School District high schools during a ceremony at Ironwood High School.
Mountain Ridge students included Paige Keaton, August Student of the Month; Liesa Shepherd, September Student of the Month; and Isabella Perry, October Student of the Month.
Also recognized were Maryam Gorgees and Jaydee Gelleos from Peoria High School; Ivy Nguyen and Luis Morales from Peoria Flex High School; Kenzie Frey and Te'Ana Moore from Centennial; and Noah Gifft and Kenneth Armstrong from Ironwood.
Peoria North Rotary Club, founded in 2005, has a long history of community service focusing on students, education, and literacy. In addition to sponsoring Student of the Month, the club annually distributes dictionaries to every third-grade student in the Peoria Unified School District.
“Supporting education is one of Rotary International’s seven areas of focus, and it has always been a primary focus of the Peoria North Rotary Club,” Steve Matthews, club president, shared in a press release.
Until recently, Peoria North Rotary Club had only sponsored Student of the Month at Mountain Ridge High School. The club merged this past summer with the Rotary Club of Peoria, which had previously sponsored Student of the Month at Ironwood, Centennial, Peoria and Peoria Flex high schools. The combined clubs agreed to continue recognizing Students of the Month at all five schools.
