Peoria North Rotary Club earns humanitarian award

Peoria North Rotary Club has received the Silver ShelterBox HERO Award for its contributions to ShelterBox during the 2019-20 Rotary Year.
This is the second year in a row PNRC has earned Silver HERO status with the Rotary International partner.
Peoria North has been the largest ShelterBox supporter two years running and the only Silver HERO Club in Arizona Rotary District 5495, which includes 68 clubs and over 2,000 members.
ShelterBox provides humanitarian aid in the form of family-sized tents and essential tools to start repairing and rebuilding homes. Additionally, the organization’s kits and boxes contain items that help transform a shelter into a home, like cooking sets, solar lights, blankets, water filtration and mosquito nets.
“We are honored to support ShelterBox in its efforts to rebuild communities and keep families together in a safe shelter during times of crisis,” said Jason Braunstein, president of the Peoria North Rotary Club. “We have seen the life-changing impact ShelterBox has and our club is passionate about their work.”
More than shelter, these items enable families to recover following disaster, providing a way to keep communities and families together and allowing them the space to focus on the future.
Since 2000, ShelterBox has provided shelter, warmth, and hope following more than 300 disasters in over 100 countries, having sheltered more than 1.6 million people.
ShelterBox serves the most vulnerable families who have been displaced due to earthquake, volcano, flood, hurricane, cyclone, tsunami, or conflict by delivering essential shelter aid and life-saving supplies.
ShelterBox’s core aid items include a disaster relief tent for an extended family, blankets, a water filtration system, emergency lighting, and other tools for survival.
Peoria North Rotary Club is part of Rotary International, a worldwide organization that has been serving those in need for more than 115 years. In Peoria, the club supports literacy projects, local schools and efforts to help the homeless.
The club’s signature community project is Prom Closet, a program that provides formal prom attire free of charge to area high school students.
