Peoria honors 32 young artists at Spring Art Showcase

Posted

At the Jan. 28 City Council meeting, the Council recognized 32 students whose artwork was selected for the city of Peoria Young Artists Showcase. Their art was professionally framed and displayed in the Peoria City Hall Pine Room Jan. 3-28.

The Young Artists Showcase program aims to engage students interested in the visual arts and incorporate their talents into an art exhibit at Peoria City Hall. Teachers from Peoria Unified School District instruct the students in their art classes and collected entries for the showcase. Each school selected two submissions to be displayed in the showcase. The biannual program includes all 34 of the district’s elementary schools – half in January and the other half in May – and students in kindergarten through 8th grade. This program recognizes and celebrates the artistic talents of students and highlights the commitment of their teachers to a robust arts education.

The city of Peoria, in partnership with the Peoria Unified School District, will continue to showcase students and their artistic talents at the upcoming 2025 Peoria Arts & Cultural Festival on Saturday, March 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the campus of Peoria City Hall, 8401 W. Monroe Street. This event is free and open to the public. It includes interactive arts experiences, multiple activities and student performances.

With more than 14,000 attendees expected this year, this event has grown to be one of the largest in the West Valley. It features more than 3,000 pieces of student artwork, more than 80 performances on multiple stages, and various activities for children. Attendees can also enjoy a variety of food and drink options from food trucks and performances from Peoria Unified students throughout the day.

The festival celebrates arts education in Peoria and also serves as a fundraiser for the Peoria Education Foundation - a nonprofit that provides grants to teachers and scholarships to students in need within the district.
