This recognition celebrates Severn’s extraordinary dedication to career and technical education, as well as his lifelong impact on Arizona’s construction industry workforce, a news release said.
Severn is completing 45 years of teaching construction CTE courses to high school students and electrical apprentices across Arizona.
His career began at Metro Tech High School with the Phoenix Union High School District, where he inspired countless students for 33 years. After retiring, Severn began teaching construction at Peoria High School and has been serving students there for 12 years. Severn is known for his hands-on, student-centered approach to teaching.
Reflecting on his career, Severn shared, "I love it when the students see the connection between what they are learning and their careers and lives."
In addition to his work with high school students, Severn continued to shape the next generation of industry professionals through his role teaching nights with the Arizona Builders Alliance apprenticeship programs.
Beyond the classroom, Severn has played a pivotal role in expanding opportunities for student success. He has led the planning and organization of the SkillsUSA Regions 2 and 5 Regional Construction Contests, held annually at the Lowe’s Home Improvement store in Glendale, providing students with invaluable real-world competition experiences.
SkillsUSA Arizona commended Dave Severn for his tireless efforts, passion, and the enduring legacy he continues to build within the construction education community. His induction into the Hall of Champions is a testament to his unwavering commitment to student success and workforce excellence.
