Peoria fire shares Thanksgiving safety tips

Thanksgiving is next week and the Peoria Fire-Medical Department has cooking and safety tips to keep you safe this year.

• Keep young children at least three feet from the stove and turn pot and pan handles inward.

• Keep an eye on your food while you cook. Cooking a turkey overnight is not recommended.

• Check your smoke detectors and batteries.

• If you're frying your turkey, be sure the turkey is completely thawed and dry before placing in a fryer. Do not over fill the fryer and choose a level space outdoors.
