Public safety radio coverage in the northern part of town is about to improve.

City Council approved $350,000 to repurpose the Vistancia Radio Site.

City documents state that radio coverage in northern areas of the city is less than optimal, specifically at Sunrise Mountain High School, Smart Center, Lake Pleasant Elementary, and Vistancia Elementary, which have been tested and found to be below acceptable radio frequency levels for radio coverage.

The information technology and police departments have collaborated to improve the in-building coverage at these locations by enhancing both incoming and outgoing signals.

An Emergency Responder Radio Communications System will be installed to enable communications for these buildings.

Initially, the Vistancia Radio site was approved in the fiscal year 2019 capital improvement program for $2 million.
