Peoria has gotten closer to updating its impact development fees, or one-time charges to developers that help pay for growth.

The city held a public meeting, Feb. 19.

Deputy City Manager Katie Gregory said it was an opportunity for public comment on the two-part process — the approval of a land use assumptions and infrastructure improvement plan, as well as a the adoption the new impact fees.

“We hold stakeholder meetings so we hear what some of the public comments are and issues and concerns those that are interested in our impact fees share with us,” Ms. Gregory said.

Council is expected to consider for adoption the land use assumptions plan and infrastructure improvement plan, April 2.

Subsequently, a public meeting regarding the fees will be May 2, and council is expected to consider the new fees for adoption, June 18. They are likely to go into effect in September.

Staffers are working on the next fiscal year’s capital improvement budget and these fees are one of the major funding sources for capital projects.

Every five years cities are required by state law to update their update fees.

Impact fee timeline

April 2: Council adoption of the land use assumptions plan and infrastructure improvement plan

May 7: Public hearing regarding updated fees

June 18: Council adoption of the new fees

Sept. 2: New fees effective (75 days after adoption)
