Peoria allows businesses to use temporary signs

Posted

To help businesses during the pandemic, the city has temporarily suspended the enforcement of portions of the Peoria sign code, specifically pertaining to temporary signs.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, businesses have used temporary signs to identify curbside service, on-site dining, re-opening of business and hours of operation. The temporary suspension of this section will provide another tool for the business community to regain its foothold in the wake of the reopening.

These actions will formalize existing enforcement practices during this emergency and serve as an additional tool to further aid the business community.

Please note that the temporary suspension of this section in no way permits the placement of temporary signs blocking access, ADA or pedestrian ways, located in medians or traffic circles, within sight triangles, on utility poles or traffic control devices or in other ways that are deemed by the city to be harmful to public safety.

Once the local state of emergency is lifted, the temporary suspension of this section will cease.
