New Diamond Club GM hits ground running

Peoria nonprofit gave $115K to charities last year

A Peoria-based nonprofit that raises money for youth charities has a new general manager.

The Peoria Diamond Club hired Rosalind Shanley, a 22-year resident of Peoria who has been entrenched in the community in many ways over the years.

She is a 20-year substitute teacher with the Peoria Unified School District, and raised her two daughters through the district. Ms. Shanely has served on panels and booster clubs, designed swimming pools and backyard concepts, has a Masters of Social Work and is a certified life coach. And, she is not a new face to the Diamond Club.

Ms. Shanley has been part of the club family for more than 10 years, working as the volunteer coordinator and three years as a board member. She resigned from the board in March to assume her current position and is excited to lead the Diamond Club into the future with some new branding that focuses more on who they are and who they serve, with the new tagline, “One Team, One Dream…Helping Kids.”

“When I began this current position on July 1, it gave me yet another perspective on the organization,” she said. “Upon getting out into the community and networking, it quickly became apparent that while our heart remained where we needed it to be to accomplish our mission, our messaging in the community needed clarity. It seems we are known more for what and how we do what we do, instead of who we really are, and why we really do what we do. It’s all about the kids. Thus, we added a tagline to our logo and created a new vision for where we are going.”

The Diamond Club raises funds through partnerships, sponsorships and donations. The total giving for the 2018-19 season was $115,789, provided to 45 children’s charities.

The biggest supporters of the Peoria Diamond Club are their partners, the city of Peoria, the San Diego Padres and the Seattle Mariners. These partnerships offer the opportunity for the Diamond Club to provide their volunteer workforce of more than 500 for spring training and other events held at the Peoria Sports Complex. In return, the partners provide financial support needed to help fund grants and other giving initiatives.

While a variety of events are hosted during the year, their biggest independent fundraiser is the charity game, held typically the first day of spring training at the Peoria Sports Complex. It is an opportunity for local businesses, restaurants and services to gain marketing exposure and support the Diamond Club’s mission.

The 2020 charity game will be held Feb. 22, and the Diamond Club is offering sponsorships.
