The Black History and Multicultural Music Festival is returning to Peoria after a hiatus due to COVID-19.

Fans of the popular event have been asking every year for its return, according to a news release.

Peoria Arts and Culture, the Northwest Black History Committee and Vibrant Community presents the 25th annual event, Feb. 11, 2023, during National Black History Month and Super Bowl weekend.

Over the past 25 years, the event has featured artist like The Mighty Clouds of Joy, War, CeCe Peniston, Joe McBride, Ramsey Lewis, Stanley Jordan, Bobby Rush, Carl Carlton, Tierra, Little Joe y La Familia and many others.

The festival also includes art, dance, vendors, food, and medical screening and awareness stations.

The Intruders are one of two national acts featured. They are an American soul music group most popular in the 1960s and 1970s. As one of the first groups to have hit songs under the direction of Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff they were a major influence on the development of Philadelphia soul. The Intruders are also noted for having 24 R&B chart hits, including 6 R&B Top Tens, and 14 chart hits in the Billboard Hot 100, including their signature song, the million-selling Top 10 smash, "Cowboys to Girls.”

Other hits include the Top 10 R&B smashes "(Love Is Like A) Baseball Game," “Together,” “I’ll Always Love My Mama,” "United," and "I Wanna Know Your Name." The original members, all natives of Philadelphia, were Samuel "Little Sonny" Brown, Eugene "Bird" Daughtry, Phil Terry, and Robert "Big Sonny" Edwards. Robert Frye, the voice of the intruders for over 30 years still performs with the group all over the world today.

One other national act will be announced in the coming weeks.
