Meet Your Neighbor: Melissa Hunt

Posted

Name: Melissa Hunt

Affiliation/Title: Controller for QuickPass.

Town/Neighborhood: Peoria

What I’m excited about & why: I am excited about the new growth in North Peoria. The new park that just opened and all the new restaurants and retail. It’s an exciting time to live here.

What I like most about living here: Small community feel even though we aren’t a small community.

When & why I moved here: I moved to Arizona in January of 2005 and settled in Peoria in 2011.  We chose Peoria because we fell in love with the master-planned community of Vistancia and we knew this is where we wanted to raise our girls.

Where I lived before & why I left: I was born in Yuma but grew up in Ohio. I moved back to Arizona 17 years ago, I moved to Seattle for a year and after that year knew I was meant to live in Arizona. I have been living in Peoria for nine years now.

My family: My husband Ben Hunt (married 15 years), daughter Lily Hunt 14 years old, daughter Lola Hunt 13 years old, and Roscoe our Australian Shepherd.

What I like most about what I do: There are so many things I love about what I do. I think growing the company and being innovative are my most rewarding aspects for being the Controller at QuickPass.

If I had picked a different occupation, it might have been:  When I was younger, I wanted to be a businesswoman or an occupational therapist. I love being a businesswoman now, however, I know I would have been fulfilled in the medical industry, too.

My interests and hobbies: I have many passions, I love running, traveling, reading science fiction books, trying new foods, and cooking. I train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at Lotus Club. My whole family does. My husband and daughters are way better at it than me.

The best and/or worst time in my life: There have been many highs and lows in my life. I don’t pinpoint the worst times as I do the best times. The worst times have always been a learning experience for me. The best times personally have been traveling the world with my husband, having our two daughters and now they travel with us and we have some amazing memories so far. Career -- best times and most challenging have been with QuickPass, I enjoy working with a family business, there have been some bumps in the past five years but we have overcome each bump and grown as a whole company.

My best/worst habits: My best habits: working out, eating healthy, I compliment others  My worst habits: Reality TV watcher, wine lover, I can be a bit controlling at times.

The trait(s) I admire in others: Traits I admire in others in a personal or professional level: Grit, self-control, kindness, honesty, sincerity, and social intelligence.

People who inspired me (and how): I am inspired daily by people, it’s typically not a celebrity or a great athlete, it’s the people I see in my everyday life.  A simple act of kindness or an enormous act of strength, I see it all the time in regular people and that is what really inspires me.

My guiding philosophy: To be present always in whatever I am doing, being a parent, partner, friend, or leader at work. JUST BE PRESENT.

My advice to today’s youth: It’s your life, not theirs…don’t be afraid to try new things, don’t be afraid to fail, don’t be afraid to follow that crazy idea. It’s your life, not theirs, so go and make it the best life for you.
