Local Cub Scout pack kicks off annual food drive
Scouts to visit Vistancia Car Club Cars & Coffee car show
Posted
Cub Scouts lead by example and do their best to combat food insecurities, and a local pack is kicking off its annual food drive to do just that, Jan. 28-Feb. 3.
Last year, Cub Scout Pack 1776 collected more than 2,000 pounds of food.
The goal this year is to collect 12 pounds of food, or approximately 15 cans of food, per Scout. This goal would allow the pack to provide 564 pounds of food to those in need, according to a news release.
Scouts will be going door-to-door, as well as collecting food at the Vistancia Car Club Cars & Coffee car show, 9-11 a.m., Feb. 12, 29701 N Sunrise Point.
Scouts will take the collected food to St. Mary’s Food Bank for distribution to pantries in need around the Valley.
The most helpful non-perishable food to collect are:
● Beans – pinto, refried
● Canned vegetables
● Canned soups, chili, stews
● Peanut butter
● Meat and meat alternatives – canned tuna, chicken
● Rice and pasta
● Milk – canned or dried
● Cereal and oatmeal
Scouting for Food is an opportunity for Cub Scouts throughout the Grand Canyon Council to fight hunger in Arizona communities and is the leading service program for Boy Scouts of America, part of the National BSA program – Good Turn for America.
