Hill: Excited to get to work on Peoria Unified school board in 2021

Posted

As 2020 drifts out of the rearview mirror, looking toward the new year, I am very humbled and grateful to have been elected to serve the community on the Peoria school board.

I believe my positions on strong STEM programs, an academically superior curriculum, better recognition of learning styles, and providing students with life skills useful far past graduation, resonated with many Peoria voters.

I am excited to get to work, and although this upcoming year is filled with uncertainty, I am optimistic the new board will have a positive impact on our children and their future.

My first priority will be to ensure students are provided the best education possible with an in-person experience in a school classroom. As we move forward into 2021, we will have a better understanding of how best to safely allow our children to re-enter and stay in school. I also want to give every sport an opportunity to compete this upcoming school year. If the students of one sport are allowed to play, as is the case now, then all student athletes should be allowed the opportunity to compete and be seen by scouts and recruiters for college. To me, it’s an all or nothing concept; either all sports play, or none play.

I can’t wait to get to work on the Peoria Unified School District governing board.

Editor’s note: Rebecca Hill was elected to the PUSD governing board in the 2020 general election. She will take her seat for a four-year term in January.
